This month on comeandcheck.it, as we announced here, we’re continuing with our presentation of realizations of Croatian architects from the past year. These are all projects exhibited at the annual Croatian architects’ realizations exhibition that failed to win either a nomination or an award, but we think they should nevertheless be presented on our portal.

Today it’s the IT5 Business Center building in Zagreb designed by Siniša Bodrožić, Andrea Cvetko and Danijel Marasović from the design studio Tehnozone. Keep reading to check out the architects’ text as well as accompanying layouts and photos.

The building’s location, size and simple shape that opens up into two different elusive volumes is defined by urban elements. One is higher, floating from wall brackets, the other lower, firmly standing on the ground.

The additional design dynamic is emphasized through a monochromatic contrast – a considerably smaller white part, with its stability, makes it possible for the larger black bulk to contradict gravity.

Due to the flexibility of the layout (the end user in unknown) and the most favorable ratio of the gross/net  site area, including the width of a 17.85 m floor, a three-track scheme was selected (a central service-communication core with encircling office spaces).

The ground floor is rectangularly elongated, the main entrance situated on the northern side of Orešković Street; the entrance to the main hall is located just across the windscreen which in turn leads to the reception, i.e., all the verticals – the stairway and central elevator group.

The building’s construction – the bearing construction is made from ferroconcrete. Ferroconcrete walls of the central core are transmitted to the bedplate by vertical and horizontal forces.

The building’s façade is conceived as a structural glass façade of both high thermal-protective and acoustic efficiency and transparency.
